Look inside

Not notes. A visual system.

Every spread uses the same five tools, so your brain always knows where to look, even after a full day of sessions.

Illustrations Comparison charts Mnemonics Memory tricks Exam alerts
Open spread: measurement types drawn on a session timeline on the left, the prompting hierarchy on the right
🧩Numbered illustrationsA session, a data sheet, a graph, a prompt: drawn step by step and numbered with a legend.
⚖️Comparison chartsPartial interval vs whole interval vs momentary time sampling, positive vs negative, reinforcement vs punishment: side by side, color-coded.
🔤MnemonicsThe functions of behavior, the four contingencies, the prompting hierarchy: one short phrase each.
💡Memory tricksLittle hooks that make the rule stick, like "Positive adds, negative removes" for the words that trip everyone up.
⚠️Exam alertsThe distinctions the RBT exam loves to ask, flagged in yellow so you know what to drill.
📏Partial interval, whole interval, momentary time sampling: measurement types that all sound the same.
🔄Reinforcement vs punishment, positive vs negative: four words, sixteen ways to mix them up.
⏰Then the RBT exam, on a brand-new outline since January 2026. Pass it the first time: retakers pass less than half the time (46%, BACB 2025).
Is this for you?

Wherever you are on the path, you start today.

In your 40-hour training

Make sense of the words

Contingency, discontinuous measurement, prompt fading: drawn so they mean something before your first session. The bundle goes alongside your 40-hour training and your competency assessment. It doesn't replace them.

Studying for (or retaking) the RBT exam

Ten minutes is enough

Every topic fits on a short page you can read between sessions or on the bus. Plus the 3 badge cards for your reel: functions of behavior, measurement at a glance, and the prompting hierarchy.

Already an RBT, heading to BCaBA/BCBA

Start from solid ground

Handy before your annual renewal competency assessment, and the concepts you'll meet again in your coursework, drawn clearly from day one. It's the foundation, not the whole BCaBA or BCBA exam: pair it with your program's materials.

Built like the exam thinks

Define it. Measure it. Follow the plan.

As an RBT you don't invent the interventions: your BCBA writes the plan, and you apply it and measure what happens, under supervision. That's the job, and it's also what the RBT exam checks. So every behavior and every skill in the bundle follows the same path: a clear definition, the right way to measure it, and what the RBT does by following the plan, inside the scope of the role.

Operational definitions

Define it

Every behavior and every skill starts from the definition in the plan: observable, measurable, the same for everyone on the team, so your notes describe what you saw, not what you think it meant. Drawn so you know exactly what counts and what doesn't.

Measurement · data · graphs

Measure it

From the definition to the measurement type your BCBA chose (and why), the data sheet and the graph. The comparison charts put the look-alikes side by side so you can tell them apart in seconds.

The BCBA's plan · scope of practice

Follow the plan

Every topic ends on what the RBT does: follow the plan, record the data, report to your supervisor. It's what the exam expects an RBT to know, and it's how you work in session.

Measurement types drawn on the same session timeline: partial interval, whole interval and momentary time sampling
✦ Data collection: continuous & discontinuous · 28 pages

Partial, whole, momentary: finally different.

The timer goes off and you have to mark the sheet: did it happen at some point, the whole time, or right now? Here every measurement type is drawn on the same session timeline, so you see what each one counts and what it misses.

  • Continuous measurement drawn: frequency, rate, duration, latency and inter-response time
  • Partial interval, whole interval and momentary time sampling side by side, with which way each one leans
  • Permanent product recording, and when it's the right choice
  • From your data sheet to the graph your BCBA reads, with 20 more pages on graphs & data in their own chapter
"Partial interval overestimates, whole interval underestimates, momentary time sampling takes a snapshot."
Reinforcement vs punishment chart: positive and negative, increase and decrease, in four color-coded boxes
✦ Reinforcement & punishment · 26 pages

Four words. One chart. No more mix-ups.

Negative reinforcement, positive punishment: the words sound backwards until you see them. Here all four are one chart and two questions: was something added or removed, and did the behavior go up or down?

  • The four contingencies in one color-coded chart, each with an example from a real session
  • Reinforcement schedules compared: continuous vs intermittent, fixed vs variable, ratio vs interval
  • Conditioned and unconditioned reinforcers, and how preference assessments help find them
  • Exam alert: "negative" never means "bad", and what counts is what happens to the behavior
"Positive adds, negative removes. Reinforcement increases, punishment decreases."
Functions of behavior page: sensory, escape, attention and tangible, each with an ABC example
✦ Behavior reduction: functions & interventions · 26 pages

Ask why before you ask what.

A behavior happens and everyone wants to know what to do. The first question is why. Here every behavior starts from its function, and every intervention is linked to the function it matches, so you understand the plan your BCBA wrote.

  • The four functions of behavior drawn, each with an ABC example
  • Antecedent strategies and consequence strategies side by side
  • Extinction, extinction burst and resurgence, and differential reinforcement (DRA, DRO, DRI, DRL, FCT): what they are and why they work
  • Exam alert: "sensory" is called automatic reinforcement on the exam, and it's the same function
  • What the RBT does: follow the behavior plan, take the data, report to your supervisor. No new interventions on your own
"SEAT: Sensory, Escape, Attention, Tangible."
Prompting hierarchy, from full physical prompt to independent
✦ Behavior acquisition: DTT, naturalistic teaching, prompting & fading · 30 pages

Prompt it. Fade it. Watch it stick.

Too much help and the learner waits for it, too little and they practice the mistake. Here DTT, NET and the prompting hierarchy are drawn step by step, so you know which prompt comes next and when to fade it.

  • DTT and NET side by side: how a trial works, and how the same skill looks in play
  • The prompting hierarchy drawn from full physical to independent
  • Most-to-least vs least-to-most, and how fading works in each
  • Exam alert: the plan tells you which prompting procedure to use, you don't pick it
  • Plus 18 pages on chaining, shaping, generalization & maintenance in their own chapter
"Most-to-least when the skill is brand new, least-to-most when the learner already knows part of it."
The Complete RBT Bundle cover
✦ Ethics & the RBT role · 24 pages

Know where your role ends.

A parent asks you to change the plan. A family invites you to a birthday party. Here the situations that come up in real homes and clinics are drawn with the answer the exam expects: what's in your scope, and when to go to your supervisor.

  • Scope of practice: what the RBT does and what stays with the BCBA
  • Supervision: the monthly minimum (at least 5% of your service hours, with at least two contacts, one of them observing you with a client), and how to make the most of it
  • The RBT Ethics Code (2.0): confidentiality, multiple relationships, gifts, social media and public statements, cultural humility
  • What you report, to whom and how fast: incidents, injuries, and suspected abuse or neglect under your state's mandated-reporter law and your agency's policy
  • Talking with families and staff: what you can answer, and what you pass on to your supervisor
"Stay in your scope: when in doubt, ask your supervisor."

The measurement types, contingencies, functions and prompts the RBT exam asks about most, condensed into cram sheets you can reread between sessions.

  • Every measurement type on one page
  • The four contingencies and the four functions at a glance
  • The prompting hierarchy and the scope-of-practice rules on one page
  • A 2-week RBT plan: what to review each day, and when to switch to practice questions

FAQ

The questions RBTs ask before buying

Will this be enough to pass the RBT exam?

It covers the content the RBT exam draws on, mapped to the RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.), with the distinctions the exam keeps asking flagged as exam alerts. But it doesn't include practice tests, and we'd rather tell you up front. Knowing the content and answering questions under time are two different skills, so pair the bundle with a practice test: the pages help you remember, the questions teach you to apply.

There's free RBT material online. Why pay?

Free notes can help, and the BACB publishes the outline for free. But a lot of what's online was written for the old RBT Task List, before the exam changed in January 2026. Whatever you use, check that it says 3rd edition. This bundle puts all six domains in one place, drawn, in the order the exam uses.

What changed in the 2026 RBT exam?

Since January 1, 2026 the exam follows the RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.). The domains were reorganized and renamed (Data Collection and Graphing, Behavior Assessment, Behavior Acquisition, Behavior Reduction, Documentation and Reporting, Ethics), and the outline lists 43 tasks, including token economies, discrimination training, maintenance and cultural humility. The bundle is built on that outline, and the one-page RBT map shows where each task lives.

My exam is in a few days. Is it too late?

Start with the 12 cram sheets and the one-page RBT map, then spend the rest of your time on practice questions. The full chapters are there for anything that still feels shaky.

Can my agency pay for it?

Many agencies cover training materials. You get an itemized receipt by email right after checkout, ready to hand to your supervisor or HR.

Does it replace the 40-hour training?

No. The 40-hour training, the competency assessment and the background check are required steps before the exam, and no study guide can stand in for them. The bundle goes alongside your training: it helps the words and the concepts stick while you learn them, and it's your review when exam day gets close.

I have to retake the RBT exam. Will this help?

Yes. First-timers pass most of the time (79%), but retakers pass less than half the time (46%, BACB 2025), so studying the same way twice rarely works. Start from your score report: it shows how you did in each domain. If you tested before 2026, the domain names have changed: use the one-page RBT map to find the matching chapters. Reopen the chapters behind your weakest one, drill practice questions on it, and finish with the cram sheets and the 2-week plan. Check the BACB site for the current retake rules.

Can I use it during sessions?

The badge cards are made for your reel or your clipboard: functions of behavior, measurement at a glance, and the prompting hierarchy. But it's a study guide, not a treatment plan: in session, always follow the plan your BCBA wrote, and ask your supervisor when something isn't clear.

Will it help with the BCaBA or BCBA?

It's the foundation: measurement, reinforcement, functions of behavior and prompting come back in your coursework and in those exams. But it isn't enough on its own. The BCaBA and BCBA go much further, so use the bundle as your base and pair it with your program's materials.

Is it up to date?

Yes. This is the 2026 edition, built on the RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.), the one the exam has used since January 1, 2026: Data Collection and Graphing, Behavior Assessment, Behavior Acquisition, Behavior Reduction, Documentation and Reporting, and Ethics. We update it every year, and ebook buyers get the new edition free. Check the BACB site for the outline in effect on your exam date.

Which apps does the ebook work with?

Any PDF app on your phone, tablet or computer: GoodNotes, Notability, Apple Books, Adobe, Xodo. The index is hyperlinked so you can jump between chapters. You can also print any page.

Is the spiral-bound printed in color?

Yes, full color, 8.5 × 11 inches, lay-flat spiral binding, colored tabs, and the 3 badge cards laminated. Ships free in the US.

What if it isn't for me?

Email us within 30 days and we refund you. No questions, no forms.
