The questions students ask before buying
Will this be enough to pass the CPC?
It follows the CPC content areas chapter by chapter: terminology, anatomy, ICD-10-CM, E/M, anesthesia, surgery by body system, radiology, pathology and lab, medicine, HCPCS and compliance, with the rules students miss most flagged as exam alerts. It doesn't include practice questions, so pair it with AAPC's practice exams or a question bank for timed practice.
The CPC is open book. Why do I need to study at all?
Because the manuals don't tell you where to look. 100 questions in 4 hours is under 2.5 minutes each, and the students who run out of time are the ones still flipping pages. The bundle teaches you the rules, so you know what you're looking for, and chapter 10 shows you how to tab and highlight your manuals, so you find it faster.
Am I allowed to tab and write in my manuals for the exam?
Yes. AAPC allows tabs, highlighting and handwritten notes in your approved manuals. You can't add loose, glued, taped or stapled pages, and you can't bring anything else in: our cram sheets, flashcards and quick-reference cards are for studying, not for the exam room. Rules can change, so check the current CPC candidate handbook before exam day.
Which manuals do I need for the exam?
The current year's AMA CPT® Professional Edition, an ICD-10-CM manual and a HCPCS Level II manual. Chapter 10 is built around them. The bundle doesn't include or reprint the codes: it teaches you the rules behind them and how to use the books fast, and we would rather tell you now than after checkout.
Is it up to date?
Yes, for 2026 exams. The CPC uses the current year's manuals, so if you test in 2027 you'll need 2027 manuals, and ebook buyers get every new edition of the bundle free, forever.
Does it include practice exams?
No. This bundle teaches the rules and how to find them. For timed practice, add AAPC's practice exams or a question bank.
I have no medical background. Is this for me?
Yes. Many coders come from a completely different career. Chapters 1 and 2 start from zero: word parts and anatomy drawn so they make sense the first time. Every guideline chapter after that builds on them one step at a time.
Do I still need a coding course?
AAPC doesn't require a course to sit for the CPC. Many students use a course for structure and this bundle to understand the rules and find them fast. If you're starting from zero, a course plus this bundle is the safest path.
What's a CPC-A?
If you pass the CPC without coding work experience, AAPC gives you the CPC-A (apprentice) credential. AAPC lists ways to remove the "A", including work experience and its Practicode program; check the current requirements on aapc.com.
Will it help with the CCA or CCS from AHIMA?
In part. Terminology, anatomy and the ICD-10-CM chapters apply to any coding exam. But the bundle is built around the CPC, its sections and its timing, so for AHIMA exams you'll need extra material.
